I grew up in the Bay Area, fascinated with the beautiful flora and fauna of California. When I was a child, my family frequently visited Monterey Bay Aquarium for glimpses of the last truly unexplored frontier on earth. I began to view marine environments as representative of the sublime and mysterious, searching for little treasures hidden in the small and complex habitats of the aquarium. Painting seascapes to mitigate stress came naturally. And while my work started as a safe foundation to explore movement, depth and color, it also requires me to reflect upon inattention to climate change, species loss, and self-defeating interactions with our environment.
